No Class 10 Board Exams, SEBA, AHSEC Merger: Assam Government Considers Changes In Education Sector; Details

Assam Class 10 Board Exam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that there will be no board exam for Class 10 students from the upcoming academic year 2024.

JE Education Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that there will be no board exam for class 10 students from the upcoming academic year 2024. In line with the implementation of the National Policy of Education (NEP 2020), it has been decided that Matrix exams will now be conducted at the school level, while further establishing a new education board in Assam.

“Matriculation exams will be carried out only at the school level. This is being done in accordance with the New Education Policy. A new board will also appear soon. But the employees employed by SEBA will not lose their jobs,” the prime minister said.

According to the Chief Minister’s announcement, the Assam Secondary Education Board (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), which were previously responsible for conducting exams for classes 10 and 12 respectively, will now be merged into a single entity.

Under this new arrangement, the pass/fail system will continue for students in class 10, while board exams will only be held for students in class 12. Also, due to the ongoing promotion process, students enrolled in class 10 will be exempt from the requirement. to apply for admission to class 11. Employees associated with the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) will not suffer job losses due to these changes.

The announcement was made during Assam’s class 12 results declaration in 2023. This year, as many as 422,174 candidates sat for class 10 exams and the pass rate was 72.69 percent. The AHSEC class 12 pass rate for the arts stream was 70.12 percent, science students recorded 84.96 percent, and the commerce stream results were 79.57 percent.
