Twitter’s new CEO Linda Yaccarino reveals a plan to build “Twitter 2.0”

Listen to the Podcast:

On Saturday, Linda Yaccarino, the newly appointed CEO of Twitter, said that owner Elon Musk’s plans for a better future have inspired her and that she is excited to help change the social media platform.

In her first public speech since the news broke Thursday, she said she was in talks to be Twitter’s next CEO. Musk, who has been CEO of Twitter since he bought it for $44 billion last October, told the world about her new job on Friday.

“Musk’s idea for a better future has been an inspiration to me for a long time. I’m excited to help Twitter achieve this goal and change this business with you!” Linda Yaccarino sent a tweet.

“I see I have some new fans… I’m not as active on this site as @elonmusk (yet!), but I care so much about his future. Your opinion is IMPORTANT for that future. I will be there for everything. Let’s keep talking and working together to build Twitter 2.0!” she added.

Thank you @Elon Musk! I have long been inspired by his vision to create a brighter future. I’m excited to help bring this vision to Twitter and transform this business together! https://t.co/BcvySu7K76

As head of advertising for Comcast Corp’s NBCUniversal, Yaccarino spent several years modernizing the company’s advertising business. He said that he is dedicated to the future of Twitter and that user feedback is important in building Twitter 2.0.

Yaccarino will be in charge of a social media platform that is struggling to reverse a drop in ad revenue and is in debt.

Since Musk bought Twitter, advertisers have stopped using it because they fear their ads will appear alongside inappropriate material. The company has lost almost 80% of its staff since Musk bought it. Musk said earlier this year that Twitter’s ad revenue had declined significantly.

Musk said Yaccarino would help build an “everything app,” which he said earlier could offer services like peer-to-peer payments. However, his choice of an advertising professional demonstrated that digital ads would continue to be a key part of the business.

Musk has long said that he wants to find a new CEO for Twitter.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc, a company that makes electric cars, said Friday that putting Yaccarino in charge of Twitter will give him more time to work at Tesla.
