Jeremy Schobel, a teacher at Harriton High School, was arrested June 8 after allegedly using social media to trick two teenagers. According to ABC, Schobel, 31, posed as a 17-year-old woman to gain the trust of young people and collect sexy and explicit photos and videos for Snapchat. Harriton authorities claimed that Schobel had admitted to using comparable techniques for years. Lower Merion School District officials told the parents of the two teens about the event on the day of the arrest. When Schobel was hired as a teacher at Harriton High School, the school district noted that he had no criminal record. If he is found guilty, he will be required to register as a felon and lose his teaching credentials.

However, the case that resulted in his arrest involved the fake accounts he had maintained since November 2022 to contact the two most recent victims. The most recent incident targeted teenagers between the ages of 16 and 18. According to The Inquirer, Jeremy Schobel pretended to be 17 to gain the trust of the two girls on the Yubo app. He would supposedly direct them to Snapchat once they made contact. He would gain the trust of the children after chatting with them and asking them about illegal content. Authorities began investigating the potential for a predator and discovered that the suspect had been communicating with the girls using two different usernames. One was “jillmoreno” and the other was “sophiavan423.

Jeremy Schobel’s phone number was connected to both accounts. Schobel may have interacted with the children while he was working, according to school administrators, since one of the IP addresses identified by police matches the institution. The Lower Merion School District stated in a formal statement that they were unaware of any inappropriate interactions Schobel may have had with students at Harriton High School.
The statement read: Prior to the start of the 2021-2022 academic year, Mr. Schobel began working for the Lower Merion School District. He had no criminal record that would have prevented his employment. Schobel’s teaching duties have been put on hold while the investigation is ongoing. The administration indicated that counseling and support is available for children after the incident shocked the school community. So this was all about this case.
