Ashland, Illinois, man kills his fiancee and two daughters

Authorities in central Illinois are investigating the possibility that a man killed three women, injured another man and then committed suicide. In response to a report that a man had been shot Thursday night, authorities were dispatched to a home in rural Ashland, which is about 10 miles west of Springfield, according to a press release from Cass County Sheriff’s Office. A woman who had died and a man who had been shot were the two bodies they discovered. The injured man claims another Ashland home was the scene of a comparable assault. There the authorities found the bodies of two women.

Cass County Sheriff Devron Ohrn identified the suspect as Ronald L. Cobren, a 62-year-old Ashland resident. Law enforcement officers located Cobren’s car in Jacksonville, which is about 20 miles southwest of Ashland. Inside the van, Cobren was found dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The person who had survived was found to have suffered possibly life-threatening injuries. According to investigators, the incident began Thursday night at a dilapidated rural home west of Springfield when emergency medical personnel responded to a report of a person who had been shot in the stomach. Police discovered Autumn Bell, 19, dead from a gunshot wound when emergency personnel arrived.
