Baipan Bhari Deva’s sensational sisters have taken the Marathi box office by storm, giving a major boost to a film industry long seen as Bollywood’s poor cousin. Kedar Shinde’s comedy drama, about a sextet of squabbling brothers who gather for a cultural ceremony, has seen record numbers since its release on June 30. Distributed by Jio Studios, Baipan Bhari Deva is especially unusual due to its female-focused themes and its old-fashioned older, double-chinned cast, ranging from 68-year-old Rohini Hattangadi to 48-year-old Deepa Parab Chaudhari. Initially, the film was scheduled to be released on 28 May 2021, it was postponed to 28 January 2022, and then to 6 January 2023. Finally, Baipan Bhari Deva was released in theaters on 30 June 2023. The film’s opening weekend net taking is ₹5.90 crore and ₹6.45 crore gross, making it the biggest Marathi opening weekend of 2023.
