“Real Time” host Bill Maher scolded billionaire X owner Elon Musk for his highly controversial post last month, saying it seemed “really anti-Semitic.”
Maher, who overwhelmingly supported Musk’s acquisition of the platform formerly known as Twitter, mentioned the tech mogul’s recent visit to Israel during his “Overtime” segment on Friday, asking the panel if he no longer held “anti-Semitic beliefs or conspiracies”.
“The Rubin Report” host Dave Rubin responded to the question by insisting that Musk had never had “anti-Semitic or conspiratorial beliefs,” and then defended him by saying that his post on X was aimed at left-wing Jewish groups like the League. Anti-defamation (ADV).
“There are a lot of anti-Semites out there, but Elon Musk is not one of them,” Rubin said.
“That may be true,” Maher responded. “Look, he’s a tough guy to follow all the time. I tried. And this tested my patience with him because he may not be anti-Semitic, but when someone tweets what he tweeted and he tweets ‘You told the real truth,’ he seems really anti-Semitic. “Well then.”
Musk has come under fire in recent weeks for appearing to endorse what has been widely labeled as an anti-Semitic post about X.

An I’m not deeply interested in giving the slightest shit about Western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities who support the flooding of their country don’t like them very much. You want them to tell you the truth to your face, there it is.”
Musk responded: “You have told the real truth.”
He later clarified that he was referring to the ADL for its progressive politics, writing: “The ADL unfairly attacks the majority of the West, even though the majority of the West supports the Jewish people and Israel. This is because, according to their own principles, they cannot criticize the minority groups that constitute their main threat.”

But that didn’t stop his critics from bringing charges of anti-Semitism against him and attacking his social media platform for failing to crack down on anti-Semitic rhetoric.
Additionally, major advertisers, including IBM, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate and Paramount, fled X after the liberal advocacy group Media Matters published a report alleging that their ads appeared alongside anti-Semitic content.
However, a lawsuit filed against Media Matters by Musk alleged that the group “completely misrepresented the actual user experience” to mislead advertisers.
Appearing Wednesday at the New York Times Dealbook Summit, Musk offered harsh words to companies that boycotted X.

“Don’t advertise. What if someone is going to try to blackmail me with advertising? Blackmail me with money? “Fuck you,” Musk said, adding, “Fuck you, is that clear?” Hi Bob, if you’re in the audience. That’s what I feel, don’t advertise.”
This was in response to Disney CEO Bob Iger, who earlier in the event defended his company’s decision to no longer advertise on X.
