How did the tragic events of the night unfold?
At approximately 10:30 p.m. (10:30 p.m. GMT) on Sunday, firefighters and police quickly responded to a distress call at the residence. Tragically, upon entering the property, the lifeless bodies of the five victims were found.
A sixth individual was reported to have managed to leave the home before emergency services arrived.
At the same time, sadly, a seventh person remains missing, adding to the complexity of an already heartbreaking situation.
Authorities are working to piece together the details surrounding this devastating incident.
“The family had been setting off fireworks earlier in the evening for Diwali, but it had nothing to do with it as it was before the fire.” Felica Matei told the Evening Standard newspaper.
The destructive fire left the ground floor and first floor of the residence in ruins, according to the London Fire Brigade.
Emergency crews managed to control the fire at 1:25 a.m. on Monday. The investigation into the origins and circumstances of the fire continues as the community mourns the loss of five lives and remains hopeful for the well-being of those still missing.
