Ex-Google Recruiter shares tips on how to get your CV noticed

All professionals, both in India and abroad, consider Google to be their ideal place to work. In their quest to land a job at a leading technology company, applicants stop at nothing. But what should you do if your efforts fail to persuade Google recruiters to take notice of your resume?

A former recruiter recently identified the red flags on a resume that can jeopardize your chances of landing a job at his dream company. Nolan Church has worked on talent selection for companies like Google. Church, who is currently the executive director of the Continuum talent marketplace, has a list of dos and don’ts for applicants.

Church has some advice for people writing resumes for Google. In an interview with CNBC, she warned applicants against misspelling, extending CVs to more than two pages and touting vague skills without offering evidence.

Church cautioned against using “block text” on resumes, which refers to endless prose with lots of words but not enough content. Such CVs have no chance of bypassing you.

Another crucial tip is to keep each job title to one line descriptions instead of long words. Church claims that most business communications are done via email and the Slack platform. There is no way for candidates to communicate in the workplace if they cannot adequately express what they have done in their careers.

He also suggested using programs like ChatGPT or Grammarly to make sentences shorter, grammatically correct, and correctly punctuated. He also advised that the CV be reviewed by at least five to ten people before submitting it.
