It’s a lab rat.
The Florida chemistry whiz accused of injecting opioids under his neighbor’s front door because of the noise from the toilet seat used his university lab to carefully mix the dangerous toxins, according to court documents obtained by The Post.
Xuming Li, 36, used a “lab on the University of South Florida campus to mix and load liquid syringes on multiple occasions with the intent to harm condominium residents,” the breach of contract filing claims part of the building owners association.
Li had a PhD. A chemistry student at the university until the summer of 2023, she confirmed USF to WFLA.
The chemist was arrested on June 27 after his neighbor, Umar Abdullah, caught him on a hidden camera crouching down and pouring a clear liquid into a crack in the door frame.
A hazardous materials test revealed that the “liquid chemical agent” contained a combination of methadone and hydrocodone, both opioid pain relievers.

News of the shocking poisonings sent other residents of Tampa Palms’ Oxford Place into a state of panic, according to the lawsuit, which seeks to evict Li and his co-owning roommate from the complex.
“Defendant’s actions have reached the point that residents and owners feel unsafe within their properties and the condominium,” the filing states.
In a statement, the University of South Florida said: “The safety and well-being of the USF community is our highest priority. The USF Department of Chemistry has several safeguards in place to ensure that all chemicals and other materials owned by the university for teaching and research purposes are properly accounted for and used.
The USF chemistry labs do not house chemicals classified as Schedule II controlled substances, which include hydrocodone and methadone.”

Abdullah told local outlet WFLA that he, his pregnant wife and young daughter moved into the compound directly above Li in June 2022.
Li soon began sending angry text messages to her new neighbors, complaining that the noise of the toilet seat was making her lose sleep.
Soon after, the family suddenly began experiencing unexplained bouts of nausea and dizziness.
“I look at my daughter,” Abdullah recalled. She “had tears in her eyes. She wasn’t crying, but she had tears in her eyes.

A family friend first noticed a chemical smell while taking a pack for them while on vacation.
Then Abdullah also noticed the smell and suspected that there was a problem with his water heater.
However, the stench persisted even after he replaced the appliance and cleaned the air ducts and vents.
Desperate for a solution, he called the fire department, who ran tests but found nothing wrong.

“After all this, I never thought not,” Abdullah said. “I’m just imagining this. No.”
He finally noticed a small crack in the door and became suspicious of his disgruntled neighbor.
After falling ill once more, she set up a hidden camera outside her door and was shocked to see Li crouching down and emptying a syringe under her front door.
“We were shaking,” Abdullah recalled to WFLA. “We can’t imagine him coming in and doing something.”
