Google is the go-to tool for most people who want to quickly discover information and understand complex problems. Google Search allows users to locate information from a variety of global and local sources. However, there may be cases where Internet-based information is not factually accurate. In such situations, fact-checking is necessary to validate the allegation. Google has provided a number of tools for people to verify information before placing their trust in it.
The company stated in a blog post: “Everyone should be equipped with the tools they need to access trusted information. “This is why we designed features to help you evaluate the information you find online while expanding the range of useful information you can find.
The search engine giant provided new features, “Insights” and “About this author,” as well as globalized certain tools, such as “About this result.”
Google added new capabilities to its search engine, including “Insights” and “About this author,” and improved several of its existing tools, such as “About this result.”
Get information by ‘Perspectives’
The ‘insights’ carousel will appear below top stories to highlight “insights from a range of journalists, experts and other relevant voices on the topic.” The feature will initially launch in the United States in English for desktop and mobile.
‘About this author’ for source information
When you receive different perspectives on a topic, you may discover the views of a newspaper or author with whom you are not familiar. The ‘About this author’ feature will provide more information about the writers of the content that users read. Also, this will help them discover new voices that they can trust.
This is essentially an expansion of the “About this result” feature. According to the firm, it will debut in English-language search results worldwide and on the Perspectives carousel in the United States.
Get details using ‘About this result’
In the coming days, Google will roll out the “About this result” feature internationally in all languages where Search is available.
“Now, whenever you do a search, you’ll see three dots next to most results on Google Search. By clicking on those three dots, you can learn more about the source of the information and how our systems decided it was relevant to your query,” Google explained.
In addition, users can now use the “About this page” feature. When users enter the organization’s URL into Google Search, the About This Page information will appear at the top of the results page.
‘About this page’ feature
Google is also improving the accessibility of its ‘about this page’ area in search engine results. “Starting today, if you enter an organization’s URL into Google Search, information from the About page will appear at the top of Search,” the tech giant explained. The feature is accessible to all English-speaking users around the world.
Detect information gaps with warnings
There are times when a query does not return a large amount of information or the results change quickly. Google stated that Search will automatically display content advisories in circumstances where a topic is rapidly evolving to address these knowledge gaps.
In the coming months, the corporation will expand its information quality breach notices to include German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese.
Google clarifies that these recommendations give context to the entire result set of the page and that it does not consider the content to be of low quality.
