Harvard professor sues former NY Mag writer over book about trans and lesbian couple

A Harvard Law professor is trying again to sue a journalist who he says manipulated him into sharing the secrets of her life for a book she planned to write without him.

Professor Bruce Hay, 60, said former New York Magazine writer Kera Bolonik, 47, convinced him to let her co-author a book about her complicated relationship with a controversial partner, a lesbian woman and his transgender wife, but then turned around and signed. her own book contract.

Hay “lost the opportunity to be the first to market with a book on the subject of his story,” states the lawsuit, filed last week in Manhattan Federal Court.

He is asking for no less than $75,000 in damages.

Hay “missed the opportunity to be the first to market book on the subject of his story,” thanks to Kera Bolonik’s own book, the lawsuit states. Linkedin Kera Bolonik

Bolonik’s deal included an undisclosed six-figure retainer, according to the lawsuit.

A court ruled in favor of Bolonik in 2021 in a longer lawsuit that included allegations of defamation and sexual harassment.

Hay said she sought inappropriate intimacy so she could manipulate him.

Bolonik, who also wrote two articles about the professor, is still writing the book, which will be titled “Gullible,” according to her biography at Dame Magazine, where she is editor-in-chief.
