Reports claim that more than 1,500 people gathered at Optus Stadium for a ceremony as people remembered him as a larger-than-life person. Optus Stadium, where the funeral was held, was packed with emergency service workers, paramedics and police. They were there to pay their final respects to the late police officer Anthony Woods. He tragically passed away last month. Reportedly, Anthony Woods was being run over as he intercepted a car. The late police officer was too young as he died at the age of 28. Paul Trimble, who is the WA Police Chaplain, kicked off the services and summed up the impact Anthony Woods had on people in the community. He said: “Everyone who knew Anthony says he was larger than life and he had a lot of fun and cheer to give to everyone he met. He would treat others with respect, even when he was at work. Shortly after news of Anthony’s incident broke, a man Anthony had previously arrested came to the Belmont Police Station to register as part of his bail conditions.” Notably, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also paid tribute to Woods.
Anthony Albanese said Woods was a young man cruelly robbed of his future. He further added: “All Australians join the family of Agent Anthony Woods in mourning. A husband, son, brother and uncle taken from his loved ones. An Australian who went to work and never came home. Like all police officers, Officer Woods knew the risks involved in his job.” Agent Anthony Woods has died at the age of 28. His death left the entire Australian Police Service fraternity in despair.
