Cause of death of Tibisay Lucena
Lucena was born in Barquisimeto. He studied cello and performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Venezuela and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra (1980-87). Lucena earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the Central University of Venezuela and worked as a researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Administration. She then pursued graduate studies in the United States, earning a master’s degree in sociology from the New School for Social Research in New York. Unfortunately, the former president of the National Electoral Council and Minister of University Education of Venezuela, Tibisay Lucena, passed away.
The news of her death was confirmed by the executive vice president, who in a message posted on Twitter called her a “distinguished daughter of Venezuela” and a “true militant for life, and she fought her last battle without truce.” In addition, she extended her condolences to Lucena’s family and friends.
In turn, President Nicolás Maduro regretted his physical departure and expressed through the aforementioned social network and wrote: “With great sadness we have to say our last goodbye to a woman of great battles.” The head of state classified her as a patriotic defender of democracy and education in our country. In a second message he evoked her as a woman of great character who remained faithful to her principles and ideals, always defending the just causes of the people. He was born in Barquisimeto, Lara state on April 26, 1959 and studied Sociology at the Central University of Venezuela (UFC). He was in charge of the CNE for 14 years, the period 2006-2020. In September of the same year, she was appointed rector of the Experimental University of the Arts, a position she held until October 2021, when President Nicolás Maduro appointed her Minister of University Education.
