The choice between led and gas camping lanterns depends on which power sources you choose. The camping lantern is quiet, lightweight and safe to use in the tent.
However, when the temperature drops below freezing, the alkaline battery will lose approximately half its capacity. If it is not recharged, the rechargeable battery may not be able to be used continuously during a trip of several days.
The camping lamp is very bright, burns long, and works well in temperatures below freezing (run time is reduced, but not as much as when using alkaline batteries). Because they use a flame with fire, they feel very hot and should be kept away from flammable materials and ventilated. They are also more fragile than the camping lantern.

However, the shell of each lamp is different and the lumens are different, so there will be some deviation in the softness of the light. We generally find 25-150 lumens to be sufficient for general camping and lighting small areas like picnic tables or family tents. Products in the 200-600 lumen range are a great standalone option for lighting your entire campsite.
Package weight and size
Due to differences in overall design and function, the weight distribution between camping lights is quite large. Think about how you will use your flashlight. For motorhomes, the weight and size of the package will not be a problem. However, if you’re planning camping trips, you’ll need something lighter that won’t take up too much packing space. If you’re backpacking, look for a small or collapsible flashlight.
Many backpack flashlights are also lightweight, so you can easily find flashlights that weigh less than half a pound. For many campers, especially those with limited luggage or garage space, weight is more important than packability. Collapsible designs, such as solar lanterns, are a great option for those with limited space: they can be quickly and easily deflated when not in use, and the thickness when compressed is about 1 inch. The downside to these folding models is that they tend to be less robust and durable than hard-sided options in the long run, but we’ve used both designs extensively and haven’t encountered any puncturing or tearing issues so far.
Battery duration
If you want to carry a light, battery life is a consideration, especially if you want to stay in the woods for a few days or more. We suggest that you choose more AAA batteries because you only need to buy a large number of super 3A batteries, and you don’t have to be afraid to face the dark alone.
If your flashlights use disposable batteries, it’s worth taking extra batteries on the trail. If you have a rechargeable battery, please bring a portable battery or solar charger to charge your lantern between uses.
Easy to use
