Is there a perfect type? Know what a professional instructor suggests you wear while driving

A driving instructor has advised drivers to avoid wearing certain types of footwear while driving. As you may already know, driving with the wrong type of footwear can result in an expensive charge.

Basically, if your shoes or clothing prevent you from properly using the vehicle controls, you could be in trouble with the law.

A Next Level Driving School instructor took to TikTok to describe the types of shoes to avoid before getting behind the wheel.

What did the instructor suggest?

If you were stopped and an officer thought your footwear was incorrect, you may face a charge of “driving without due care and attention.”

The legal definition of the defense is “allowing the standard of driving to fall below that of a competent and careful driver”, and carries a fixed penalty of £100, as well as three points on your licence.

The RAC, on the other hand, states that “the maximum penalty here is nine license points and a £5,000 fine.”

You may even be banned from driving altogether if you go to court.

“So I had someone in the car wearing a pair of shoes with huge soles,” he says in the video.

“And it had an effect on momentum.” He did an excellent job with the car controls, however, if you wear shoes while driving, they must be flat. “You should be able to feel the pedals, because not being able to do so will certainly affect the way you drive the car.”

Why is it necessary to take these points into account?

The Driving Standards Agency recommends that your driving shoes.

– Have a sole whose thickness does not exceed 10 mm.

– The sole should not be very thin or too soft.

– Give your foot adequate grip to prevent it from slipping off the pedals.

– It shouldn’t weigh too much.

– Do not restrict ankle movement.

– Be narrow enough to avoid accidentally pressing two pedals at the same time.

Rule 97 of the Highway Code requires drivers to wear “footwear and clothing that does not prevent them from using the controls in the correct manner.”

How did people react?

One commenter recounted his own experiences driving with questionable footwear, writing: “Very accurate. When I wore shoes with large soles, I couldn’t feel the pedals at all and felt extremely risky and unsafe, so I went back to replace them.”

In a later comment, he stated, “It’s amazing how shoes can affect driving.” And he told another follower that something that has support is crucial.’
