Israel air force strikes Syria in response to rocket attacks

The Israeli air forces carried out airstrikes against military targets in Syria in response to rocket fire from the hostile neighboring country, the military said.

Israel Defense Forces shared a short video on X On Sunday, a fighter jet is shown bombing what was described as “military infrastructure on Syrian territory.”

The airstrikes targeted two army posts in the southwestern city of Daraa, near the border with Jordan, Syrian state television confirmed on Monday.

The raids caused “some material losses,” according to the Syrian Defense Ministry.

The aim of the early morning attack was to destroy rocket launchers that had been used to fire into open Israeli territory on Saturday, the Israeli military stated.

No victims have been reported.

Meanwhile, airstrikes targeting a convoy of trucks entering eastern Syria from Iraq early Monday destroyed several vehicles and killed at least three people, according to Syrian opposition activists and a Lebanese television station.

It was not immediately known who carried out the attack, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

However, Omar Abu Layla, a Europe-based activist who runs the media outlet Deir Ezzor 24, saying American warplanes were responsible for the attack, “in retaliation for attacks on American bases,” adding that the trucks were carrying weapons for Iranian-backed militias.

Al-Mayadeen TV in Beirut also reported that US planes carried out the attack, but claimed that the trucks were carrying construction material.

The airstrikes came after the Pentagon announced Thursday that it had bombed two sites inside Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in retaliation for a barrage of drone and missile attacks on U.S. bases and troops in the region that started a week earlier.
