Israel could finally see the more than 130 hostages held by Hamas and the terrorist group’s exiled leaders released in exchange for Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza under a new deal drafted by Qatar, according to reports.
Israel’s war cabinet will meet on Wednesday to discuss a new proposal put forward by Qatari negotiators that calls for the permanent exile of Hamas from Gaza to restore peace in the Palestinian enclave, according to local news Channel 13.
The deal reportedly includes provisions for Hamas to gradually release all remaining hostages in Gaza as long as Israel agrees to completely withdraw from the Strip.
Once the Israeli army and the hostages are out, senior Hamas leaders, who have ruled the territory for 17 years, will also leave Gaza, according to the proposal.
The potential deal is expected to face resistance from both sides as the conflict continues since the devastating Hamas terrorist attack on October 7.

While Israel has repeatedly stated that the war in Gaza will not end without the total destruction of Hamas, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his war cabinet face increasing pressure to accept a deal that could end the months-long suffering. of the hostages still being held by Hamas.
Families of those detained have advocated for a possible path forward that would allow the return of their loved ones.
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which has held demonstrations in Tel Aviv for weeks, called on the war cabinet to approve any deal proposed by Qatari negotiators, whose previous agreement allowed for the release of more than 100 hostages in November.

“Reports on a new agreement to be presented to the cabinet this afternoon offer some hope to families who are worried about the fate of their loved ones, who have been suffering in Hamas tunnels for almost 100 days and nights without food. . , water and life-saving medical treatment,” the forum said in a statement Wednesday.
“The war cabinet should only worry about the return of the kidnapped people,” he added. “We demand that you approve any agreement that leads to his immediate release alive!”
Along with Israel’s apparent hesitancy, it remains unclear whether Hamas would accept a proposal that would require the group to leave Gaza.

Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, has reiterated that he will only release the remaining Gaza hostages once Israel agrees to release all Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
“They will not get their captives back at all except after all our prisoners in the occupation prisons are released,” Haniyeh said during a conference in Qatar on Tuesday.
As Israel’s war cabinet meets, delegates from the Jewish state have arrived in Cairo to speak with Egyptian, Qatari and American negotiators about a possible ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
The talks in Cairo will also focus primarily on getting Hamas to release more hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, the Times of Israel reports.
