Death of Kshamata Skeete
Kshamata Skeete, 49, born in North Carolina, was a prominent mountain climber and orthopedic doctor in the United States. She was a medical doctor specializing in sports injuries and hand orthopedics. Skeete provided care to athletes and other patients with bone, muscle and joint ailments at Carolinas HealthCare System and Carolina Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center. Skeete was an outdoor enthusiast and frequently embarked on climbing adventures in her personal life. She was drawn to the excitement and allure of the world’s highest peaks. With an elevation of 6,960 meters above sea level, Aconcagua in Argentina is the highest peak in both the Western and Southern Hemispheres, where she recently completed her last climbing expedition.
After several grueling days of hiking and climbing, Kshamata Skeete finally reached the summit of Aconcagua on January 24, 2023. But tragedy struck while she was descending, in the Piedras Blancas region, about 5,500 meters above sea level, where he suffered a heart attack. . Gabriel Fraccia, her guide, immediately reported the situation, but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. Skeete’s death is the fourth climbing-related death on Aconcagua this season.
