Investigators discovered a mysterious note in the home of suspected Maine mass murderer Robert Card as the U.S. Coast Guard joins the massive search for the fugitive.
The discovery was made as authorities executed a search warrant at Card’s scruffy Bowdoin home on Thursday, according to NBC News, a day after police said the deranged U.S. Army reservist killed 18 people and injured others. 13 in two mass shootings in Lewiston.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the note, the contents of which were not revealed, provides any answers about the motive behind Wednesday night’s bloodbath, the outlet said.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard has launched surveillance aircraft and boats from Boothbay to join the search for the accused mass murderer that already includes local, county, state and federal agents, Chief Petty Officer 3rd Class of the Coast Guard told NBC. Coast Guard, Diolanda Caballero.

Card’s car was found near a pier in Lisbon, nearly 8 miles from the scene of the shooting, authorities said.
A 15-foot boat believed to belong to Card was reportedly missing, The Messenger reported.
Retired New York Police Chief Robert Louden said Card, described by former Army colleagues as a trained marksman and outdoor expert, may have fled into the woods, making his search “like a spiderweb”.

“From that parking lot where he left his scar there are four different possibilities,” Louden told NBC.
“He killed himself. He got into a boat and went down that stream there.”
The Kennebec River runs from Moosehead Lake in the area.

“He got into another car or motorcycle or something that was waiting for him,” Louden continued.
“Or there is a hiking trail. It could be somewhere in the forest.
“And it’s like a spider web spread, and you have to follow all those pieces of the web.”

Card reportedly enlisted in the Army in 2002 and was hospitalized in a mental health facility in July after exhibiting strange behavior while at Camp Smith, near the military academy at West Point.
Among the victims were members of Lewiston’s deaf community, who were participating in a cornhole competition at Schemengees Bar & Grille when the gunman burst in with an assault rifle.
The White House on Thursday called for the nation’s flags to be flown at half-staff to commemorate the deadly tragedy.
