Woman Receives Phishing Call From Scammers Pretending To Be ‘Delhi Police’
Phishing Scam – I just received a robocall saying “This call is from @DelhiPolice, a document of yours needs to be picked up, stay on the line and press… *confused*. I press 1 randomly, it connects me to a man who claims to be a policeman and asks why *I* called the police hotline… 🤣 🧵

The woman explained how scammers trick people by posing as “Delhi Police”. When she received an automated call saying “This call is from the Delhi Police, a document needs to be collected from you, please stay on the line and press… *confused*”.
She then randomly pressed number one, which matched her to a man posing as a police officer who asked her why she had called the police hotline. Sucharita knew that she was being deceived, but she insisted out of curiosity.

She continued to be skeptical during the chat, thinking the call was strange, as she revealed in subsequent tweets.

However, the scammers persevered and told Sujata that one of the cards they had “recovered” had her name on it. They asked him to confirm the last four digits of the card in an effort to establish that it was his.

Sujata, who appeared to be vigilant, refused to divulge personal information and made the decision to handle the situation on her own. Sujata quickly ended the call, expressed her frustration and announced her plan to speak to the Kirti Nagar police station in person.
She was grateful for her own prudence after the experience, underscoring the vulnerability of people who might not be as informed about such scams.
The scammers’ phone number was determined to be +91 96681 9555. This episode serves as a reminder of the ever-changing methods scammers use to fool gullible people. Authorities and consumer protection organizations continue to advise the public to be alert and careful if they receive suspicious calls or communications.
It was not just Sujata, but many others who had a similar experience. This is what other people shared.

this scam is quite common and expecting anything from delhi police is a waste of time 🙂 Just avoid those calls and be vigilant
