Landing at the airport can be extremely dangerous, so much so that only 24 pilots in the world are allowed to land planes at this airport.

One of those 24 skill masters recorded the whole thing and showed the world just how tricky a landing at this Bhutan airport can be.

The whole video was shot in a POV-style clip, which makes it seem like the viewers are in on the landing strategy. Now, you might be busy wondering what makes the runway approach so taxing for the pilots.

The pilots who are allowed to land at the Bhutan airport have to navigate the airbus through the Himalayan valleys, which means the plane has to complete 15 demanding manoeuvres in order to land safely.

Reasons Why Paro Airport Is Dangerous

The first manoeuvre required the craft to follow a series of turns in order to align with the runway. The second is that the ones in charge of the plane have to use visual navigation since the airport does not have an Instrument Landing System (ILS) due to the terrain.

So, the pilots have to rely on their training and experience to make a safe landing. With these restrictions, the pilots also have to navigate through the valley. There are also limited go-around options, so the pilots have to carefully manage the plane’s descent rate to remain on the desired glide path.
