Ram Temple Ceremony: ‘Mahaprasad’ for Guests

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has received over 20,000 ‘mahaprasad’ packets for the pran-pratishtha (consecration ceremony) of Lord Ram Lalla at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya today, which will be presented to the VVIPs and dignitaries at the ceremony.

The ‘mahaprasad’, made with pure ghee, five types of dry fruits, sugar and chickpea flour (besan), includes two small bottles of water from the sacred Saryu river, kalwa (a sacred scroll of red cotton thread tied around the hands of the participants), supari (betel nuts) and akshat (brown rice), according to the PTI news agency.

The pictures of the ‘prasad’, which would be given to the VVIPs and dignitaries at the ceremony, were leaked online. According to the images published by news agency ANI, the prasad box consists of ‘Ram Kand Mool’, ‘Sarju Neer’, ‘Kumkum’ and ‘Rudraksha’.

Kamal Bhai Rawal, national president of the organisation, told PTI: “We have been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing ‘mahaprasad’ besides making arrangements for the stay and food of the saints.”

How will the food be served to the saints?

Every day, the trust provides food to approximately 5,000 saints staying at Udaasin Ashram Ranopali, as well as a kit containing a blanket, pillow and sheet.

Guests attending the pran-pratishtha ceremony will be served purely vegetarian meals as well as pulses, ‘thepla’, almond barfi, ‘matar kachori’ and millet-based delicacies cooked by chefs from Varanasi and Delhi.
