See: The ‘Asperitas’ clouds found by ‘The Cloud Appreciation Society’ are really terrifying

People rarely think about clouds. The moment when a person can take his head out of his phone is rare, and when he does, it is extremely unlikely that he is doing it to appreciate the spell of the clouds in the sky. However, a quick look at a video of rough clouds can be dazzling even to those who rarely observe fluff in the sky.

While most people are ignorant of the movements in the sky, there are people who know them by heart and can even recognize the types of clouds that form in the sky. Gavin Pretor-Pinney, who founded the Cloud Appreciation Society, was one of those people. Gavin liked clouds so much that he ended up getting images of cloud formations that were quite strange even to those who loved to watch them.

The cloud formation in question was the unruly appearance of wavy clouds that seemed to move with a real essence, which scared many viewers. The clouds discovered by Gavin were so unique that they even received the unofficial name “‘undulatus asperatus”.

Gavin spent years getting official recognition of cloud formation. His perseverance finally paid off in 2017 when the World Meteorological Organization decided to add cloud formation to the updated version of its International Cloud Atlas, changing the name to “Asperitas.”

Gavin described the clouds as dramatic

“Waves located at the base of the cloud, either smooth or mottled with smaller features, sometimes descending in sharp points, as if you were viewing a rough sea surface from below.” In a conversation with The Verge, Gavin described the clouds he found.

He added: “Variable lighting levels and cloud thickness can create dramatic visual effects.” A video of the clouds Gavin is talking about was posted to YouTube by Alex Schueth, who captured the phenomenon on camera about a decade ago.

After watching the video at the time, people were amazed and scared at the same time. One launched conspiracy theories after watching the video, “what if the ‘City of Atlantis’ is just our world, and we’re already under that water in the city where the people who are on Earth’s land they don’t even believe?? What if when we “get off Earth” into “space” we are actually getting closer to the surface? What if we go too far into space one day and see the real Earth? It’s overkill, but it is nonetheless a conspiracy.”

While one thought of aliens, “That’s just the covert alien fleet on the move…”

One quipped: “I identify as a fish while watching this. That makes me think about the living creatures above and what kind of liquid they live in.”
