Sisters face sentence for murder of love rival in nightclub

A pair of Indianapolis sisters will be sentenced this week in connection with the nightclub shooting of an alleged romantic rival.

Arieal Smith, 25, was convicted in late September on charges of murder, pointing a firearm and carrying a handgun without a license in connection with the death of Secoya Williams on Feb. 25, 2022, FOX 59 reported.

Her sister, Ebonie Parks, 29, was found guilty of assisting her sister in the commission of the heinous crime, the outlet added.

Smith is expected to receive between 45 and 60 years behind bars at his sentencing Thursday, while Parks faces a sentence of one to three years at his arraignment Friday.

Williams had just turned 25 when he ran into Parks at Club Kalakutah, where he was watching a childhood friend perform a rap, FOX 59 explained, citing Indianapolis Metropolitan Police.

Parks became angry when the rapper, her ex-boyfriend, allegedly began paying attention to Williams, the report continued.

The scorned woman called Smith and told him to bring a gun to the scene.

The situation got even worse when Smith threw a drink in Williams’ face.

A guard then took Smith out of the bar, where he got into a black van, WTHR reported.

Williams approached the vehicle and began banging on the passenger side window, according to a security guard who witnessed the altercation.

Smith then opened the door and shot Williams in the stomach.

Parks’ ex attempted to help Williams, but was deterred when Smith pointed the firearm at him.

Several people told police at the scene that Parks was in the driver’s seat of the SUV at the time, WTHR said.

The sisters fled at top speed, but were arrested three days later.

“I’m glad Secoya finally got justice,” Williams’ mother, Marilyn Johnson, told the Indianapolis Star of the guilty verdicts.

“My daughter didn’t fight with people. The evidence proved that what we knew was true all along. “I felt relief.”

Johnson feels her daughter was “ambushed” by Smith and Parks, she added.

The Kalakutah Club was closed by state regulators earlier this year, the Indianapolis Star reported.

The Lafayette Square hotspot was linked to at least six shootings since 2020, the outlet noted.
