What is skiplagging?

Skiplagging, also known as hidden city ticketing or throwaway tickets, cleverly reduces costs for travelers by issuing tickets with a designated endpoint they don’t intend to reach. Because? It is an economical tactic.
Certain cities tend to have higher airfares due to multiple factors. Skiers, adept at this strategy, take advantage of cheaper flights to distant cities, and do not aim for the last stop on the flight but rather one of the stopover cities along the route. And for obvious reasons, airlines are not particularly enthusiastic about this practice.

The tactic has gained widespread awareness, largely due to skiplagged.com—a website that boldly declares: “Our flights are so cheap that United sued us… but we won.”
While it seems appealing at first glance, people who use this method to circumvent airlines and save money may face penalties and repercussions.
How to use the Skiplagging method

Going.com’s Katy Nastro explained the method: “For example, let’s say you want to fly from Orlando to New York. You know, see the city, but the price is a little out of budget. Maybe it’s $150.”
Nastro added: “However, he found a flight from Orlando to Richmond via New York and it cost him only $88, which is a pretty good savings.”
Nastro explained how after arriving at the connecting location, things were fixed for the hack users: “However, you got off in New York and paid a fraction of the price of the direct flight, but bought a connecting flight.” Nastro commented: “So in essence, it’s basically like you buy a direct flight without the cost of the direct flight.”
