A Texas father was arrested last weekend for allegedly leaving his hungry children locked in a car while he visited nearby bars, local police said.
Fabio Aaron Minchala was taken into custody Saturday after witnesses discovered his two children, ages two and six, alone in a locked vehicle after they were allegedly seen honking the horn, CBS4 reported, citing El Paso authorities.
When the firefighters opened the car, the children told the firefighters that they were hungry, the outlet added.
Authorities found Minchala at the nearby Ditzy Duck Bar, where he told police he knew his children were in the car and that he planned to return soon, CBS4 said.
The father was allegedly slurring his words, smelled of alcohol and could not maintain his balance, the outlet explained.
Bartenders at two other local bars later told police that Minchala had been kicked out of their establishments after he became intoxicated and aggressive.
Fabio Aaron Minchala was arrested on Saturday.
Minchala filed for divorce from his wife of four years, the mother of his youngest son, in September, KTSM reported.
The divorce was finalized two days before Minchala’s alleged drunkenness.
Minchala was charged with two counts of child abandonment with intent to return and was released Tuesday on $15,000 bail, the outlet added.
The El Paso Police Department did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment on the case.
