Listen to the Podcast:
Immersive View for Maps was unveiled at Google’s developer conference in 2022. The company announced at its Google I/O event on May 10 that the travel tool will be improved this year.
The new update adds a “multi-dimensional experience” to routes so you can see everything about your trip, including the weather, before you drive, walk or bike.
Google also talked about Android 14, its newest operating system, which will be released later this year. It also announced the new Pixel 7A and Pixel Fold phones to add to its range.
We’ll tell you what’s happening with the immersive view of Google Maps and when it will be available.
What changes are coming to the immersive view?
Soon, you’ll be able to see bike lanes, sidewalks, intersections, and parking lots along your path when you use Google Maps’ immersive view. You can use the route view whether you’re driving, walking, or even biking. The app will use AI and past driving patterns to show you what traffic would look like at the time you’ll be on the road. For example, if you go to work at 8 am, Immersive View might show a lot of cars, but if you go for a drive at night, it might only show a few.
You can also use the time slider to see how the weather and air quality change throughout the day. For example, it may be hot when you leave your house in the morning, but if it starts to rain, the temperature may drop, so you may want to take a rain jacket and boots.
How does the immersive view work?
Google’s Maps app has 3D models created by putting together images from Street View and from the air using AI. The idea is to make you feel like you’re already in the place you want to visit, like a restaurant or a neighborhood, before you even get there.
When will the immersive view update be available?
Google announced that it would soon start rolling out Immersive View for routes. These 15 cities will have the new update available: Amsterdam, Berlin, Dublin, Florence and Venice, Italy, Las Vegas, London, Miami, New York, Paris, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle and Tokyo are just some of the cities that will be mention.
