The beautiful five-week-old giraffe’s name was revealed live on September 5 by officials at Brights Zoo, a family-friendly facility in Limestone, Tennessee, after weeks of online voting by the public.

Kipekee is the name! This beautiful name means “unique” in Swahili. Approximately 40,000 people voted for the name.

The zoo asked its followers to vote for four names: Kipekee, Firyali (meaning “unusual or extraordinary”), Shakiri (meaning “she is the most beautiful”) and Jamella (meaning “one of great beauty”).

Kipekee got just over 16,000 votes, defeating the name Shakiri, which received over 10,000.

Brights Zoo says it is the only known solid-color reticulated giraffe in the world. Its subspecies are the reticulated giraffes.

According to David Bright, Kipekee is the only giraffe of his breed born without spots since he was born in Tokyo in 1972.
