Thief who stole underwear rearranged home of victim he stalked during robbery: Idaho cops

An “armed and dangerous” roving robber has been breaking into the homes of women he stalked, and even took the time to rearrange one of his victim’s furniture, Idaho police said.

Jacob Smart, 38, was named Thursday as the man they had been pursuing for the past several months for carrying out a series of robberies in Boise.

The looter was captured on multiple surveillance videos walking nonchalantly toward his victims’ properties, and on one occasion felt comfortable enough to pet the owner’s dog as he followed it around the yard.

He also forced entry on several occasions, kicking down the doors, as the video shows.

Once inside his victims’ homes, Smart allegedly grabbed their underwear, debit and credit cards, weapons and more.

According to police, in at least one case, Smart did some redecoration.

“In a burglary, the suspect moved personal items inside the home,” Boise police said.

“In another burglary, the suspect entered the home while the victims were sleeping, stole the keys to the home, and was later seen on surveillance video attempting to re-enter the home, but the victims had already changed the locks.”

Smart is accused of carrying out five robberies in Boise between August and October 2023 and may have continued his heists across state lines.

Multiple stolen assets, including several from Boise victims, were recently recovered when he was stopped in Oregon, but Smart fled while police attempted to arrest him.
