ATLANTA – Another day, another surrender.
Former President Donald Trump was booked into the Fulton County Jail Thursday night on charges of illegally attempting to overturn the results of Georgia’s 2020 election.
Trump, 77, spent approximately 20 minutes at the correctional facility, where he was processed and his mugshot was taken, making him the first former commander-in-chief to receive such indignity.
The 45th president was then flown back to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, where he addressed reporters on the tarmac.
“We didn’t do anything wrong. I did nothing wrong and everyone knows it,” he said, later adding: “What they are doing is interfering in elections and trying to interfere in an election. There had never been anything like this in our country before. This is their way of campaigning… We did nothing wrong at all and we have every right, every right, to challenge an election that we consider dishonest and we think is very dishonest.”

Trump then took off for Newark Liberty International Airport after spending roughly 90 minutes in the disputed state.
Hours before Trump flew to Georgia from his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club, his supporters and opponents began gathering outside the facility northwest of downtown Atlanta, hoping to catch a glimpse of the quadruple-indicted real estate mogul.
“Trump has proven his criminality,” said Nadine Seiler, 58, of Waldorf, Maryland, who wore a tiara proclaiming her membership in the “Fani Willis Fan Club,” a reference to the Fulton County district attorney.

“He doesn’t pay his suppliers. He doesn’t even pay his lawyers,” Seiler continued. “He has been trying to steal the votes of black and brown people, so that offends me. I feel it is necessary to come here and let these people who are being brainwashed know that Trump is a criminal. We have seen it. We have heard it.”
However, the supporters of the 45th president far outnumbered his critics outside of jail.
“I think these accusations are a witch hunt, a political opposition trying to silence their political opponent and make the other party think they are a criminal,” said Marcia, a 60-year-old real estate investor from Marietta, Georgia. ., who arrived with a friend at 7:30 am “And I want to show him that his base is still here, we are loyal and I will still support him through all of this.”

Trump posted on Truth Social that he would be arrested at 7:30 p.m.

Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows turned himself in Thursday afternoon and was released on $100,000 bail. Harrison Floyd, the former director of Black Voices for Trump, also turned himself in Thursday but did not have a bail agreement and was being held in the Fulton County Jail.

Meadows and former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark had petitioned the federal courts earlier this week to stay their delivery until their motions to transfer the case to federal court could be heard.
US District Judge Steve Jones denied both men’s requests Wednesday, writing that until a federal court formally assumes jurisdiction over a state case, state court proceedings can continue.

Meadows had first asked Willis for an extension of his Friday noon deadline, but she refused, stating that the former White House chief of staff “is no different than any other criminal defendant in this jurisdiction.”
“The two weeks were a tremendous courtesy,” he wrote in his response to Meadows. “At 12:30 p.m. Friday, I will file arrest warrants into the system (against those who do not turn themselves in by that time).”
A hearing will be held Monday morning on Meadows’ motion to transfer the case to federal court.
