Twitter New Verification, Gray Tick for Government, Golden for Business

Twitter has started giving government-related accounts a gray checkmark and businesses a gold checkmark. All other verified accounts will get a blue verification checkmark.

With the launch, Twitter has changed the blue tick on the Government of India handle to a gray tick, as well as on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handle. The Prime Minister’s Twitter has 85.1 million followers.

The company announced on December 12 that it will replace the “official” label on some business Twitter accounts with a gold check mark. It had said it would add a gray checkmark to accounts for governments and multilateral organizations.

Twitter Blue costs $8 per month on the web and $11 per month on iOS. Twitter plans to gradually roll out Twitter Blue around the world.

“Existing Twitter Blue subscribers will be able to automatically upgrade, cancel or renew their subscriptions at the new price. Prices may vary depending on where you live. Soon Android will have subscriptions, the company said.

The Twitter Blue service is available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.
