Videos recorded Saturday show a tornado passing through the city of Clarksville, the fifth largest city in Tennessee.
The images below captured the moment the dark funnel cloud moves across the horizon, with a neighborhood of detached homes with vehicles parked in driveways in the foreground.
Another video showed the tornado forming in front of the parking lot of a crowded shopping center. The buildings are completely dwarfed by the giant gray cloud swirling in the distance.
Below, the tornado was shot moving behind large transmission towers in a field. The texture of the tornado is most evident in this clip, as you can see the tornado’s powerful winds spinning around its core.
A traffic camera in Clarksville recorded the supercell that produced the tornado. The camera images showed vehicles driving on the roads as if it were any other day.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, where Clarksville is located, issued a statement confirming that a tornado touched down in the area of Hand Estates, a neighborhood in the northwest part of the city. They indicated that damage had been done to several homes.
The office added that they have no confirmed victims or missing persons.
The supercell, along with the tornado, were part of a severe weather system that swept through the central South on Saturday. Before reaching Clarksville, the storm is believed to have spawned at least one other tornado in northwest Tennessee.
