A man from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, attracted attention by writing a letter to the Gorakhpur district commissioner and magistrate, expressing his desire for the Bharat Ratna after claiming to have heard his inner voices pleading strongly for it.

Identifying himself as Vinod Kumar Gond, the man revealed that while meditating one night, he clearly heard voices within him saying, “I want Bharat Ratna” not once but twice.
This motivated him to formally seek to have the government bestow upon him this high honor. “He was about to participate in Sandhya Bandan/meditation on September 30 when, before beginning, my conscience loudly declared that I should receive the Bharat Ratna,” his letter in Hindi said. As a result, I respectfully want to be recognized for it.”

But did the authorities respond? The document, adorned with various seals of the Commissioner, DM and other administrative officials of Gorakhpur, suggests that it has gone through several levels of approval.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that there is no confirmation of the level of official support, but the fact that such an unconventional petition has received attention from government agencies has amused netizens.
Why did the man ask for a Bharat Ratna?
Vinod Gond, a resident of Pipraich who lives in a rented house in Chhatra Sangh Chowk Kalepur with his wife and two children, tells News24 Hindi that on September 30, 2023, while he was absorbed in meditation, a thunderous inner voice declared continually: ‘I want Bharat Ratna.’
This remarkable encounter impacted him deeply and resonated wherever he went. He then recited the Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta and entered into a state of meditation. “During meditation, the Lord appeared before me, revealing the names of four people and declaring that only they could help me achieve Bharat Ratna,” Vinod explained.
But he didn’t stop there; he claimed to have sent a letter to the commissioner, which was read by the commissioner, DM, magistrate and Tehsildar.
An accountant then called him and confirmed that his letter had been handed over to the Government of India. They told him they would let him know when the answer came. See the viral post here.
