Indiana police officers rescued six people, including a baby, in the middle of the night from a burning house fire in Indiana. According to the Frankfort Police Department, the call of a house fire came in just before 2:10 a.m. Monday. The caller noted that the “house was filled with heavy smoke” and that they were on the second floor of the building and had no way to escape. The baby was reportedly having difficulty breathing due to smoke inhalation. The three officers, namely Sergeant Andrew Snyder, Officer Freddy, and Madison Douglass arrived within a minute of the 911 call.

Police say flames were shooting out of the front of the home, making it impossible for the family to get down from the second story. The video shows that Snyder quickly found a ladder and placed it in front of the second-story window. He went upstairs and spoke through the window, motioning for the family to pass the baby through the window. Snyder grabs the baby and rescues it from the burning fire. After safely rescuing the baby, he called and guided the other people out the window and down the ladder safely.
Body camera footage of Officer Douglas shows the officer running towards the occupants of the home’s ground floor unit and ordering them to leave quickly before the fire reaches them. Relatives of the family have expressed their gratitude to the authorities for rescuing the entire family. A relative named Samantha Stevens took to Facebook and said:
My sister’s apartment caught fire last night. Thank God everyone was saved and rescued. Thank you Frankfort Police Department, for being there first. Thank you, Officer Douglas and the other officers. Thank you for being there for my sister, Braxon, and the family above…’
Stevens also thanked the officers for safely removing the baby without harm. The Frankfort Fire Department is investigating the exact cause of the fire at the Indiana residence. The Medal of Valor is awarded to officers who have gained this extraordinary courage to protect others from harm, even if it compromises their own lives.
Capt. Evan Hall said they all demonstrated an extraordinary act of bravery in getting a total of six occupants to safety under extreme stress and life-threatening conditions. The Frankfort Police Department and Fire Department are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Thanks for being a patient reader.
