A health care watchdog group is demanding that Johns Hopkins Medicine eliminate its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program after its boss created a “toxic culture” by declaring that all whites, Christians and men are “privileged.”
Do No Harm condemned the elite institution’s “empty” apology after Dr. Sherita Hill Golden, the hospital system’s chief diversity officer, last week sent a memo to all staff defining privilege as “a set of benefits.” unearned granted to people who are in a specific social group situation.”
“Johns Hopkins needs to completely eliminate its DEI department and channel those resources toward the primary goal of preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals to provide the highest quality care to all patients,” Kristina Rasmussen, a senior health care professional, told The Post. CEO of Do No Harm. .
“They have created a toxic culture rooted in a DEI ideology that demonizes and indoctrinates the very students they are tasked with training to become the next generation of medical professionals.”
“Their weak apologies are simply insufficient, and our campaign is focused on raising awareness about the discriminatory ideas taught to students and the hostile workplace imposed on employees.”
The group, which is “focused on keeping identity politics out of medical education, research and clinical practice,” also displayed a mobile billboard in D.C. on Thursday protesting the DEI program.

“Racism is still racism when a DEI official says it,” the sign says, plastered next to Golden’s face and The Post’s original report.
The mobile billboard will spend Thursday touring the Johns Hopkins campus and hospital in Baltimore, the group said.
The school drew national ire last week after Golden sent a “monthly diversity summary” email to staff outlining the narrow definition of privilege, which she said operates at “personal, interpersonal, cultural and institutional levels.” .
Among the privileged social groups listed in the letter were white people, able-bodied people, heterosexuals, cisgender, men, Christians, middle-class or property-owning people, middle-aged people, and English-speaking people.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr., both white, cisgender, English-speaking men, were among those who criticized the memo.
Golden walked back his definition of privilege and apologized to staff after the backlash.
“The newsletter included a definition of the word privilege that, upon reflection, I deeply regret,” he wrote in a memo. “The intent of the newsletter is to inform and support an inclusive community at Hopkins, but the language of this definition clearly did not meet that goal.

“In fact, because it was overly simplistic and poorly worded, it had the opposite effect,” he continued. “I retract and repudiate the definition I shared and I am sorry.”
The apology was insincere, Do No Harm argued, adding that dismantling the DEI program was the only way to correct the misstep.
The group highlighted Golden’s second position as director of DEI for the American Society for Clinical Investigation, which offers a post-BA scholarship program available only to students who are “underrepresented in medicine and science.”
“It is clear that Dr. Golden’s detrimental DEI influence has far-reaching reach in the medical community and deserves additional scrutiny,” Do No Harm said.
The Post left a message with Johns Hopkins.
