On June 6, 2023, Orlando Police Officer Alexander Shaouni allegedly exceeded the posted speed limit of 45 mph while operating his marked patrol van without lights or sirens on. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage showing an officer tagging the SUV at speed. The SUV did not stop despite Seminole County Sheriff’s using lights and sirens, forcing it to speed up as well. According to the New York Post, officer Alexander Shaouni was taken into custody on June 9, 2023 and is now being prosecuted.

According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office body camera video, the deputy sheriff saw the Orlando Police Department cruiser go by. The officer followed the speeding patrol car, turned on its lights and siren, and turned onto a neighboring road. Alexander Shaouni, an Orlando police officer, was nowhere to be found when the deputy turned around, according to The New York Post. Shaouni was being followed on the two-lane highway, so the officer had to speed up his pace and stop at triple-digit speeds. According to the arrest record, when Officer Shaouni refused to stop, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Deputy had to speed up to nearly 90 mph in order to catch him.

Body camera video, according to The New York Post, indicates that when the deputy finally caught up with the speeding trooper, Officer Shaouni allegedly turned on his own lights and stopped shortly thereafter. Body camera film from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office reveals that after finally coming to a stop, Officer Shaouni got into a fight with the officer. Officer Shaouni approached the deputy sheriff after exiting the Orlando Police Department’s patrol SUV, according to body camera video. He asked what the latter was doing and why the policeman was trying to stop him when he was on his way to work.
