11 pro-Palestinian protesters arrested in London as tens of thousands demand Gaza ceasefire

At least 11 pro-Palestinian protesters were handcuffed by London’s Metropolitan Police on Saturday, as tens of thousands took to the streets to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

One man was accused of waving a banner that could incite hatred near Piccadilly Circus, London’s equivalent of New York’s Times Square, while others carried signs threatening to blow up Parliament House, according to The Independent.

The protesters began in Trafalgar Square, according to the outlet.

A woman reportedly threw an image of the Star of David into a trash can that was covered with the slogan, “Let’s keep the world clean.”

British Transport Police are also investigating an incident in which London Underground passengers chanted “smash the Zionist settler state,” The Independent reported.

White sacks stained with red paint to imitate dead babies were placed on the ground and carried by women at protests in Trafalgar Square.

As in the United States, protesters in London blamed their government for being “guilty” for the deaths of nearly 10,000 people in the Gaza Strip.

A speaker at the event said: “Victory of the Palestinian resistance, until there is a free Palestine from the river to the sea and Zionism, the repressive and monstrous State of Israel will be crushed and torn down, brick by brick, government by government.

“The flag of Palestine, if we support the Palestinians, if we build a revolutionary and anti-imperialist movement in our communities from the grassroots, if this movement supports the people of Palestine, let us imagine in our lives, one day, the flag of Palestine. “It will fly high and proud over the city of Jerusalem,” they said, according to Daily Mail.

Other protests took place across the UK, including in Manchester and Glasgow, where attendees waved Palestinian flags and called for a ceasefire.

International protests also broke out, including in D.C. and New York, where attendees accused Biden and other politicians of genocide.

American rapper Macklemore performed at the protest in DC, where he called the death of more than 9,000 people in Gaza “genocide” as protesters called for the destruction of Israel.

At several protests, attendees chanted “Free Palestine, free,” “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” and “victory to the Intifada.”
