1. Security improvements
F1 cars include modern safety features such as the Halo cockpit protection system and different safety systems. Driver safety is a primary issue and this entails significant costs.
In truth, the three-pronged titanium tubular construction surrounding the cockpit of a Formula 1 car has saved countless lives, including Hamilton’s when he collided with Max Verstappen at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
2. Global fan base
F1 has a huge global fan base, with millions of people watching races, attending events and engaging on social media. It is one of the most watched motor sports in the world and its popularity has grown steadily over the years.
Additionally, the sport has gained a lot of interest and followers after Netflix released a series about Formula 1 called Drive To Survive.
3. A step towards sustainability
F1 has taken steps in recent years to become more sustainable. Initiatives include reducing carbon emissions, encouraging environmental responsibility and advocating for more environmentally friendly racing technologies.
4. Other categories
Did you know that, in addition to F1, there are other categories of single-seater racing cars? Held on public roads and circuits around the world, drivers and vehicles are evaluated using a points-based system that identifies the best constructors and drivers throughout the season.
5. Cars have many buttons.
Some people believe that driving an F1 car is as simple as turning the steering wheel and stepping on the accelerator. But that is not the case. In fact, most drivers have up to 25 buttons on the steering wheel, allowing them to control every aspect of the vehicle.
6. The shocking cost of the car.
Each F1 car can cost between $12 million and $15 million without essential components, depending on how much teams are willing to spend on its development.
However, to level the playing field and reduce team investment, F1 recently set budget limits for teams in 2021. In 2023, the current limit is $135 million per team. We all know how much money it is, so you can imagine how much it would cost if a racing car was involved in an accident.
