Horror images show the moment a 12-year-old girl broke four bones in her legs and an ankle after jumping from a popular cliff in Victoria, Australia.
Grade 6 student Sarah Jacka suffered injuries when she jumped off the cliffs at The Pillars at Mount Martha along the Mornington Peninsula at low tide.
Her father Chris was filming from the family boat when he heard his daughter screaming and swam over to help.
“I thought I was paralyzed, I couldn’t feel my legs at all,” Sarah said. 9News.
Jacka described the incident as “heartbreaking.” She thought her daughter had just “taken a very simple jump” into the water.
“He said he couldn’t feel his legs, so I was afraid he would break his back,” she said.

The young woman, who competed on the state diving team and dreamed of becoming an Olympic diver, was rushed to the hospital, where she underwent surgery on Tuesday.
Jacka said her daughter has been an “absolute cop” since the incident, from which she is expected to take six months to recover.
“The tibia broke at the base, a piece of the tibia came off, which was screwed back in place with two screws,” he told Herald of the sun.

“He also fractured two parts of his talus, they were reattached, so he did a really good job on the ankle, there’s a lot of damage down there.”
With one leg in a cast and the other tied in a brace, Sarah now uses her father’s mechanical cart to get around her house.
“It’s a little sad because I’m very active and it’s very difficult not being able to play sports,” she said.

A 24-year-old man broke his leg while jumping from the same cliffs earlier this week.
Mornington Peninsula County Council said they closed nearby attractions and placed warning signs on the cliff to reduce activity at the popular site.
Sarah said she would not jump off cliffs again and warned others to “check the waters before you jump.”
“It’s not worth the injury,” his father added. “Those 30 seconds of adrenaline are not worth the risk.”
