Abir rose to fame with the Bengali romantic drama film Cross Connection as Vikram Ray in 2009. The film revolves around four young people who try to discover their perfect love matches. In 2010, he played the lead role in the Bengali crime drama film Byomkesh Bakshi. Abir appeared in the horror film Jekhane Bhooter Bhoy as Ranjan Sengupta in 2012. In 2013, he appeared in the film Abortion as Hori Bose alongside Jaya Ahsan and Tota Roy Chowdhury.
He played the role of Debdas in Arindam Sil’s romantic comedy film Jomer Raja Dilo Bor in 2015. The same year, he acted in the historical drama film Rajkahini as Master and received critical acclaim. In 2018, he acted in the action-adventure-mystery film Guptodhoner Sandhane as Subarna Sen. The following year, he appeared as Kaushik, a sports teacher, in the romantic thriller film Tritiya Adhyay in 2019.
Abir was cast in the Bengali romantic action thriller film Asur as Bodhisattwa in 2020. In 2021, he acted in the drama film Dictionary as Ashoke Sanyal. He did many movies in 2022 like Mayakumari as Kanon Kumar and Karnasubarner Itikotha as Subarna Sen.
