Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) manages the receipt and display of messages, and Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) manages the sending of outgoing messages. When you set up IMAP, you’ll also need to set up SMTP. Yahoo also supports Post Office Protocol (POP), which is an email standard responsible for controlling the receipt of messages. POP fetches a message from the server and then deletes it from there, so it’s only available on the device it was downloaded to. However, IMAP syncs messages to the server, so you’ll see the same message on all the devices you use to connect to your Yahoo Mail account.

Yahoo Mail app passwords
Yahoo also supports app passwords, and these one-time passwords allow a specific program to access your Yahoo Mail account, without needing to use your account password, if you’ve enabled two-factor authentication. Sometimes you may have trouble accessing your account if you’ve forgotten the two-factor authentication you’ve set up for your account. If you’ve enabled two-factor verification, you’ll be prompted to sign in to your Yahoo account to create an app password for each PC or mobile device you’ll use.
