Ajay was born and brought up in Anuppur, a small district of Madhya Pradesh. He completed his studies from Jamuna English Intermediate Higher Secondary School and then moved to Punjab to pursue B. Tech in Civil from Lovely Professional University. Ajay performed in many singing shows in which he found interest in singing. He auditioned for Dil Hain Hindustani in 2018 and was selected for the show. Ajay reached the finals of this show.
Right after this show, Ajay auditioned opposite AR Rahman and was selected. In episode 4, he appeared for the first time and performed with Pavithra Balaji in the song Tere Bin. Unfortunately he failed to impress the judges.
