Far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez lashed out at the Biden administration over the weekend for vetoing a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) condemned the White House as “shameful” in a post on of the global organization.
“The Biden administration can no longer reconcile its professed concern for Palestinians and human rights while single-handedly vetoing the UN call for a ceasefire and bypassing the entire US Congress to unconditionally endorse the ceasefire.” indiscriminate bombing of Gaza,” he wrote.
Ocasio-Cortez, 34, who endorsed President Biden’s re-election bid, has also been an outspoken critic of his approach to Israel’s war against Hamas.
By voting against the resolution on Friday, the United States said the process was rushed and avoided some of its recommendations.

The United Kingdom abstained from voting on the resolution, which would have passed if the United States had done the same. The remaining members (Albania, Brazil, China, Ecuador, France, Gabon, Ghana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Russia, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates) voted in favour.
“It would simply leave Hamas in place, able to regroup and repeat what it did on October 7,” Robert Wood, deputy US ambassador to the UN, said after the vote.
“This resolution essentially says that Israel should just tolerate this,” Wood added. “We do not support this resolution’s call for an unsustainable ceasefire that will only plant the seeds for the next war.”

As one of the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United States can veto any resolution on its own.
Ocasio-Cortez has publicly called for a ceasefire in Israel, which has been at war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip since the terrorist group’s Oct. 7 attack, which killed about 1,200 civilians, including 33 Americans.
Other members of the so-called “Squad” have disagreed with Biden on Israel.

Recently, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), the only Palestinian-American woman in Congress, declared that she was holding back on her support for Biden’s re-election next year.
“The fight I have with the president is over a number of issues,” he told the Wall Street Journal over the weekend.
“They feel invisible to the government,” Tlaib told the outlet of her Middle Eastern constituents, “and that’s something I need to have a conversation with.” [President Biden] about.”

A new WSJ poll finds a deep schism among Democrats on Israel: 24% say they sympathize more with Palestinians, compared to 17% who sympathize more with Israelis, while 48% have equal sympathy for both. sides.
