According to recent reports, Apple plans to announce updates for several of its iPad models later this week. The surprise announcement could include faster processors for the entry-level iPad, iPad Air, and iPad mini.
Improved chips, but a few more changes
If the rumors are confirmed, the new iPad Air will likely feature Apple’s M2 chip, bringing it in line with the latest iPad Pro. The iPad mini is expected to have the A16 Bionic, while the base iPad will likely stick with the A14 or A15. . Aside from the improved internals, a few other changes are anticipated.
The iPad mini may see a tweak to fix the so-called “jelly scroll” effect on its screen. But overall, they appear to be fairly minor updates, with no major redesigns or new features. The focus seems to be on keeping iPad chips up to date. Additionally, you can also read an article on Preparing for 2024: Apple is testing an M3 Pro chip for the MacBook Pro
The moment is surprising
The timing of these supposed updates is a bit surprising. Apple just updated the iPad Air and base iPad last fall. The iPad mini was last updated in September 2021. While it is not unheard of, it is unusual for Apple to make multiple updates to the same product within a 12 to 15 month period.
Regardless, Apple fans may have some new iPad options to consider this week. Those looking for more significant changes will likely have to wait for the OLED iPad Pros rumored to arrive later this year or in 2023. But for now, there may be modest improvements in the future.
