Benjamin Eric Sasse was born in Plainview, Nebraska on February 22, 1972. His father, Gary Lynn Sasse, is a high school teacher and football coach. His mother is Linda Sasse. He met his wife Melissa McLeod on a college trip. The couple married and have three children: Corrie, Alex, and Breck.

Early career of Benjamin Sasse
Prior to entering US politics, Sasse worked at the Boston Consulting Group as an Associate Consultant from 1994-1995. Later, he was Consultant/Executive Director of Christians United For Reformation (CURE). When CURE merged with the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals (ACE), Ben served as its Executive Director in California.
In 2004 he joined the Legal Policy Office as Chief of Staff. At the same time, he was teaching at the University of Texas at Austin as an assistant professor part-time and later full-time.
After leaving the Office of Legal Policy in 2005, Ben worked as chief of staff to US Representative Jeff Fortenberry and as a contractor for the Department of Homeland Security.
The following year, he became a Counselor to the Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services. In 2007, George W. Bush nominated him for the position of assistant secretary for planning and evaluation. He served there until 2009.
From 2010 to 2014, Sasse was the 15th president of Midland University. Subsequently, he entered American politics for a term of eight years. In January 2023, Ben resigned from his position in the United States Senate. He currently succeeds Kent Fuchs as president-designate of the University of Florida.
