President Biden offered a tame echo of his rant against former President Donald Trump as he marked the anniversary of the 2021 Capitol riots on social media Saturday.
“Three years ago, a violent mob fueled by lies attacked the United States Capitol,” Biden wrote in X. “Our democracy was put to the test. But it stood because We the People prevailed.”
The post came a day after Biden attempted to boost his re-election bid by calling Trump a “loser” who speaks “the exact same language used in Nazi Germany” in a scorched-earth speech he called Jan. 6 2021 as “the day we almost lost America.”
But on Saturday, Biden avoided those rhetorical extremes, simply saying that “American democracy” is “a promise that must be kept.”

Trump himself, at a rally in Newton, Iowa, called Biden’s speech “ridiculous.”
“He can’t talk about any of the things he’s done. He hasn’t had successes,” Trump said at Des Moines Area Community College.
“The only thing he can say is that we are a threat to democracy,” the former president complained. “But he is a threat to democracy… a complete and utter failure as president, and everyone knows it.”
