President Biden plans to officially resign from the New Hampshire Democratic presidential primary as the Granite State fights the Democratic National Committee to maintain its long-standing spot on the nominating calendar.
Biden’s campaign told New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley on Tuesday that the president “will refrain from filing a Declaration of Candidacy” to comply with the Democratic National Committee’s new schedule, which has South Carolina as first contest on February 3, 2024.
“While the President wishes to participate in the primary, as the Democratic presidential candidate, he is required to comply with the Delegate Selection Rules for the 2024 Democratic National Convention,” Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez wrote to Buckley. Rodriguez.

The Democratic National Committee’s calendar changes lift the state credited with rescuing Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign after a fourth-place finish in the Iowa caucuses and a fifth-place finish in the New Hampshire primary.
South Carolina is also the home state of Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison.

Party officials argue that South Carolina is a more appropriate location for the first primary because of its more diverse population than Iowa or New Hampshire.
However, New Hampshire law requires the state to hold its presidential primary “on the second Tuesday in March or on a date selected by the secretary of state that is [seven] days or more immediately preceding the date on which any other state will hold a similar election, whichever occurs first.”
The New England state has held the first primary election of each presidential cycle since 1920.

“The reality is that Joe Biden will win the NH FITN primary in January, get renominated in Chicago, and be re-elected next November,” Buckley said Tuesday afternoon on X. “NH voters know and trust Joe Biden, that’s why he leads [former President Donald] Trump in NH by double digits.”
“President Biden’s decision to bypass New Hampshire’s ‘First in the Nation’ presidential primary voters is not unexpected, but it remains disappointing,” Secretary of State David Scanlan said in a statement.
“Despite all the rhetoric about diversity in the presidential nominating process, this issue is really about who determines the final candidate: the national political party or the voters.”

The new Democratic National Committee schedule has the South Carolina primary followed on February 6 by Nevada and New Hampshire, and the Michigan primary on February 27.
Both parties will hold their caucuses in Iowa on January 15 of this year, and the New Hampshire Republican primary is likely to be held at the end of the month.
Currently, Biden’s only declared eligible Democratic challenger is author and spiritual guru Marianne Williamson, who garners about 9% support nationwide, according to RealClearPolitics.
