Tirumala Ratha Sapthami – On this day, an important Hindu holiday known as Ratha Saptami is celebrated. The festival falls on Saptami, the seventh day of Shukla Paksha in the month “Magha”, according to the Hindu calendar. In this way, the next day, Shri Panchami or Vasant Panchami, falls on Ratha Saptami. In honor of the Sun God, the day, also known as Surya Jayanti or Magh Jayanti, is observed in the month of Magha.

On this day, people celebrate Mr. Sun’s birthday to show their gratitude for the Sun’s ability to illuminate the universe and sustain life. The sun god Surya is depicted in Ratha Sapthami riding seven horses in a chariot traveling northeast towards the northern hemisphere. The Ratha and the seven horses (Jaya, Ajaya, Vijaya, Jitha Prana, Jitha Krama, Manojapa and Jitha Krodha) represent the seven colors of the rainbow.
