In a series of tweets directed at the rival billionaires, Elon Musk claimed that Bill Gates has a billion-dollar disadvantage against Tesla and described Jeff Bezos as “okay, I guess.”
Musk’s tweets followed a poll asking his followers if they trusted “politicians” or “billionaires” more, with 76 percent of the 3.4 million respondents choosing “political.”
Musk had previously challenged Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to pose the same question to her own supporters, while others wanted Musk’s thoughts on other billionaires. Musk responded to conservative author Brigette Gamble’s tweet that he didn’t trust Gates by saying, “Since Gates still has a multi-billion dollar short position against Tesla while claiming to help with global warming, I guess I have some trust issues with him too. ”
In another response, he stated that the short position was “$500 million, but then Tesla went up a lot, so now it costs $1.5-2 billion to close.” Tesla shares were up more than 7% on Friday to $759.63, but are still nearly 37% down this year.
Musk previously chided Gates for betting against Tesla stock. He claimed that he has rejected Gates’ philanthropy, claiming that his shortfall showed the Microsoft co-founder was not serious about fighting climate change. In interviews this year, Gates hinted, but did not directly admit, that he had bet against Tesla. Another user asked Musk if he thought Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was “(in general) a good person.”
It’s alright I guess. He seems to be spending a lot of time in the hot tub these days,” Musk said on Twitter. “If you want to get to orbit, less partying and more work would be advised,” referring to the couple’s space race.
Bezos and Musk have been feuding for 15 years, with the two launching competitive business deals and reportedly bickering in private.
