The boss calls a man to work on the day off because he is single, the Internet is horrified

A growing disdain for toxic work culture emerged in people after reading about a man’s plight at his job that he had been working at for the past few years. In the chat, it became clear that the boss had already started the conversation on the wrong foot.

The boss required the man to go to work on his day off. When the man refused and asked him to contact another employee, the boss told him that he was single while “Brian” was married with children, implying that the OP had to have been available on his day off.

The conversation was already in chaos when the employee thought of defending himself and told his superior that he would not be coming on such short notice on his day off and informed him that he actually had plans to attend to.

The boss continued to pressure the employee, who finally handed in his notice

At this point, the boss would have logically held his tongue and stepped back, but certainly not in this bizarre situation. To get the facts right; the boss contacted his employee at 10 pm and demanded that she come to the office the next day at 6 am on his day off. These details are enough to make any worker’s blood boil, but wait, things didn’t end here.

When the employee offered to take a later shift, the boss refused. The superior continued to pressure his employee, asking her to either cancel her plans to help his friend move house or tell her to wait until he finished the job. The request infuriated the employee, who then proceeded to demand respect from his boss.

So this just happened and I’m almost numb atm. I hope I don’t regret this tomorrow as I enjoy my job but management is harsh by u/Feggy_JVS at antiwork.

Instead of finding a solution to the staff shortage, the boss further threatened the employee to “choose your next words very carefully, I know you don’t have any money this month.” This was the last straw that finally forced the employee to state his two weeks notice right then and there in the text message chain.

The toxic work culture resonated with many people who had survived a toxic boss. Many came forward in support of the employee and shared their own stories.
